Thoughts on Fasting

By Pastor T

What words would you use to describe your fast thus far? Challenging? Rewarding? Spiritual? Adventurous? Insightful? Hungry? Whatever word you use remember the full meaning or result of your fast will be revealed often sometime after the fast. I remember fasting as a young student in college. I wanted to be used of God like some of the people of the Bible or those in my local church. I wanted to be used by God on the foreign mission field or in service to those in need at home. The only way I knew to kindle that kind of passion and power was to stay before the Lord in fasting and praying. I knew that I needed God’s strength to help me to grow in the Lord. Years have passed since those early college fasting days but when I am traveling or ministering I am often reminded of those days of fasting. God brought those yearnings and desires to pass in His own time. As you fast, you may see physical weight loss . Your waistline may have gotten a little thinner. You can even put on those jeans that you almost threw out last year. But the spiritual blossoms may take a little longer to bloom. Please know that the Holy Spirit is at work in your life. I pray that you will keep fasting so that you too will be wonderfully surprised at how God indeed answers your prayers and honor your fast. Perhaps while you are fasting, but usually his master piece takes time. I have included that infamous scripture on waiting that all of us like to quote but none of us like to do. Be blessed!

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31 (AMP) 31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV) 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Eat Something Good!!!

Recipes! Recipes! Recipes!

Michelle Savoy has created a delicious list of recipes for the Daniel Fast: Go to http://www.pinterest.com/michelleseye/0-daniel-fast-friendly-foods/

  • Eat Something! You do not have to starve yourself on the Daniel Fast. You just have to plan your meals. Let’s take the extra effort to hear from God and to do what he is asking of us!
  • Drink Something! Stay Hydrated! Drink lots of water.
  • Diabetics, be careful of eating too much fruit and some vegetables. They also can contain a lot of sugar or starch.
  • Read Something: As we are abstaining from certain types of food, we can digest all of the word of God. Read through the Psalms, it will comfort you. Read through Proverbs, it will guide you.
  • We advise everyone to check with your doctor before you change your diet, especially if you are on a special diet or are taking medication.
