Fasting Tip

Michelle Savoy has created a delicious list of recipes for the Daniel Fast: Go to:

6:00 p.m. The Singles Ministry will journey to Sacramento for Singles Bowling Night. Please call Sister Dee Dee Murphy for a ride.
7:00 p.m. Here to Praise and Worship Band please contact Pastor Johnson to see if you have rehearsal tonight.

9:30 a.m. Prayer: Bring your heartaches, dreams and hopes to the altar. Let’s last on this fast. Prayer is the key and faith unlocks the door. We will then leave New Hope along with our community guests and walk the streets. Let’s pray Satan’s kingdom down.

10:30 a.m. Youth Choir Rehearsal: The Voices of Hope are getting ready for their Stockton Concert on February 23rd. Parents and Guardians, we will plan our transportation based on this rehearsal and your communications. We don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or disappoint any youth, but we cannot assume what your schedule is going to be and we have to make plans based on what we know, so if your youth plan to go to Stockton they must rehearse. If they cannot make rehearsal then you or your youth need to communicate with Pastor Johnson, Sister Johnson, Jessica or Coach Dee Dee Murphy. (There is no Mass Choir Rehearsal)

8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Morning Service: Join us for both worship events. All members are asked to remain after each worship service as we review the 2013 Financial report and discuss future plans for New Hope.

Fasting Focus
by Brian and Vinita Sepolen

I had a lot of anxiety going into the Daniel Fast this year. I was excited to see Vinita desiring to join me again this year, but her questions about what we were going to eat were weighing me down. Nevertheless, God came through and made provision for us.

Michelle has been a great resource with ideas from her Pinterest page (available on our New Hope Facebook page and our website). The old Luckys (Food Max?) turns out to be my best place to get produce as far as price and quality are concerned. And I find I’m more in tune with what the Holy Spirit is giving me concerning how to prepare our food.

About that… I feel a little funny, because the food tastes so good. Except for missing bacon, I think I could eat like this all year round! Mmmm… bacon…I miss bacon… Sorry, about that. Vinita shares that we are more aware of how things smell and taste, too. The kids are not fasting with us this year, so they get to eat the bacon, and I’m happy to prepare it for them. It is no trouble at all to watch them eat it while we abstain. God is the source of our strength. I have found solace in His Word, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, Philippians 4:13. But then, the fast is not just about food.

Vinita says she is really into her devotionals as well. The distractions of life are still there, but like Vinita, I too feel a desire and need to connect with God. The hardest part of that is getting together as a family to do some study time. Individually, we have time, but someone always calls, or one of the kids needs attention in a different way. Still we press on and get some study and prayer in where we can. Thank God for family grocery trips where we can turn off the music and pray together. I also see where God has been blessing me because of my obedience to His call: witness the Blue Blessing, (the PT Cruiser He has given for our/His use).

And now I’m laying myself at the altar and finding things in me that need to go. Long deep-rooted anger that God is working to get it out. I thank Him for loving me so to give me a loving and supportive environment. Thank you, New Hope. God bless you, too!
